The Tamiya HMS Prince of Wales kit was released in 1986 . It is a lovely kit , but I highly recommend you source an aftermarket etch detail set and above all , brass barrels for the Main 14 inch guns and the AA - 5.25 inch guns - you would also be advised ( if you can afford it ) to source aftermarket oerlikon 20mm and Octuple ( 8 Barrel ) 2 pdr pom-pom gun mountings with brass guns - The most imprortant thing to replace is the Kit Cranes which are modelled from solid plastic ( and trust me . don't look very nice ) - I also would not pay over £ 40 , as Flyhawk recently announced ( Feb 2018 ) that they are releasing an all-new tool 1/350 HMS Prince of Wales - that will be far more detailed and highly accurate ( it will blow this kit out of the water - as such , as the sheer quality of injection modelling has advanced so far now , since the mid 1980's ) Read full review

from the 1980s Tamiya I believe is still the only manufacture to make this item which should build into an outstanding replica of this amazing battleship which fought in two very important battles of the second world war and was finally lost in action for the want of an aircraft carrier which would have saved the day for prince of wales and repulse long will they live in memory.

fantastic parts for the model, Tamiya undoubtedly one the best manufacturers of plastic model kits. Detail amazing and parts very crisp.

This is a great model to build. I've not built a model in about 12 years. As this is for a friend for Xmas it's is very easy to build and paint in a week. But that's me painting it before assembling it.

Good basic kit, which will be improved by the addition of supplementary timber decks and railings etc.
