I have loved Miss Russell since I was introduced to her when in high school. She was an amazingly gifted, witty, comedienne. Her insights into the farcical stories and plotlines of "serious" musical theater (opera) greatly helped develop my appreciation for musical theater, and for other forms of musical expression. Some of her material. now 70-75 years old, is still solidly accurate. For example she comments that coloratura is not a type of voice, but a style of singing. "So you could have a coloratura tenor. Thank God we haven't, but you could have." Last evening I heard a soprano sing and commented to a friend, "I believe she's a heldensoprano." My friend, who has a D. Mus. in performance though for a moment and said, "I believe you're right." ANNA RUSSELL LIVES! And in my car. Read full review

Anna Russell, a trained opera singer and competent pianist, is absolutely hilarious as she "explains" musical pieces to her appreciative audience. Her interpretation of Wagner's "Ring of the Niebelungen" is particularly funny. Once you hear it, you'll never forget it.

I discovered Anna Russell years ago when LPs were the going thing. I was so happy to find it on CD as the lady was a total delight. With a professionally trained voice and a wicked sense of humor, she's nonstop insanity. Where else could you get a 20 minute synopsis of Wagner's Ring Cycle, together with instructions on how to write your own Gilbert & Sullivan operetta??!! A total must hear to believe pleasure!
Great fun with classical music and all kinds of 'silly'. Musical and well recorded.
