Mike Poulton is a master at putting huge works of literature on to the stage. His recent stage versions of "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel and "Imperium" from the Cicero novels by Robert Harris, (both for the RSC) are testaments to his skill. In "The Canterbury Tales" Poulton manages to entertain and tell these tales in an approachable but intelligent fashion. Many of us must have found Chaucer hard going at school. These plays show how wonderful these stories are. I missed seeing them on stage...they must have been 'riotous'. I highly recommend this play version of Chaucer's epic.....
