If you have got as far as thinking about this film, I think you should, because you will probably like it. This statement is based on a supposition that you like gentle B&W Brit films form the 40's/50's, and that supposition is mad because you have looked this up. You will not be dissapointed. A superior little whodunnit that may not shock or surprise you, but will certainly keep you pleasantly entertained. You will find no car chases, explosions, shoot-outs, swearing, fist fights in this. And yet it is a crime 'thriller'.. and one list on iCM even puts it as a Film Noir. That is stretching a it, but we do have a murder - and a spy. Don't expect too many butterflies either. The eponymous 'Clouded yellow' is not central to the plot as is a 'Tawney Pippet' (a film worth comparing this too). In fact it gets just one mention (that I recall). Even the idea of a butterfly collection is purely a McGuffin to get our hero in the right spot at the right time. Enjoy it.Read full review
