  • A Brilliant Novel for Children

I thought the story of the novel brilliant when I heard it serialised on the radio and later when someone gave us a copy. It has everything; witches, animals that talk, a missing treasure. The contrast between Kay Harker's daytime existence, with a bossy Governess, and his nighttime adventures, is very satisfying. I re-read it as an exercise in nostalgia (I am nearly 70) but enjoyed it as much as ever. John Masefield had a remarkable ability to recapture the mind of childhood.
