As you may know, most soldering irons now come with a coating of iron over a solid copper tip. This is to reduce pitting of the tip that used to happen when the solder dissolved the old style plain copper tip. The flip side of this is that the iron coating oxidises (rusts). Once this happens, solder will not stick to the tip and the soldering iron cannot be used. This had happened to six new soldering irons because they had been switched on for ten minutes or so without being "tinned" with solder. This tip cleaner and tinner works because it is a mix of powdered chemical which cleans off the oxide and powdered tin which then melts and flows over the clean surface of the bit tinning it. The tin coating then excludes air from the iron underneath so it can't oxidise. I rescued all six soldering irons and used less than 1 gram of the 20 gram tin in the process. That means that this tiny tin could rescue at least 120 soldering irons!Read full review

Very useful and effective way of cleaning and maintaining the tip of a soldering iron. Small tin goes a long way.

Really good solder tip tinner. Comes in powdered form with a sachet of silica gel, but works exceptionally well. I'm used to the solid type from RS.

Had a number of solder tips that needing cleaning and then re-tinning. The Thermaltronics cleaner/re-tinning paste did the trick and can use the tips for more soldering tasks on model railway.
