Outstanding camcorder.

I bought this fairly upmarket camcorder as it seems to have excellent focussing powers and wanted it for mainly recording me and other family members show jumping, often in indoor arenas with only moderate lighting. I needed a camcorder that would do a good job usually on idiot-proof auto so it needed to be more advanced than entry level. It also needed to be compatable with Mac imovie 9. I have only used this a few times but so far, in the above conditions, focus and exposure are perfect so given better conditions I imagine the footage should be very good indeed. It also is recognised by imovie on my Mac straight away which is quite a relief as this programme certainly doesn't like evreything you through at it. So far so good but even just going for straightforward stuff, I find the menus very complicated. I am not a technophobe but they don't seem to come naturally at all. Perhaps this isn't helped by the fact that I find the touch screen awkward to use, either not responding at all or responding too quickly. With those niggles aside, I would recommend this item to those who want foolproof good quality in less than ideal situations and who have the patience to get to know and understand the menus. It does have many manual and more advanced modes but since I haven't tried any of these out yet, I cannot really comment. I do feel that whatever the situation and as I become more expert with a camcorder, I will not find this machine lacking. As I get better, all the manual functions will be there waiting. Its nice and compact enough to hold and use as well. The most annoying thing about it is the touch screen which I feel many would find irritating since its sensitivity is so inconsistant.Read full review
