As I have the privilege to know the surviving member of a Wellington bomber crew, and their amazing story of the raid on which they were shot down and their subsequent meeting 50 years later of the German pilot that shot them down in 1941 that went on to become one of Germanys air aces, I wanted to know more about this amazing aircraft that was built and flown throughout the war in its various guises. There is indeed a lot of film footage that I had not seen before and I can recommend the film to anyone wanting more information on this aircraft and it's development. However I felt that the film simply did not go far enough, missing out internal 'walkthrough' views of the aircraft and footage of crews (both air and ground) working with the aircraft. Indeed such footage may not be available, but for an aircraft that saw service from the beginning to the end of the war I would find this surprising. Essentially the film is about the development and factory footage is plentiful. Another fair-sized chunk of the film was given over to the propaganda film "Target for Tonight" in which a real Wellington bomber SQN was used, but I was a bit puzzled by this and felt it had been added to 'bulk out' the contents somewhat. Having said that, it is definately of interest to anyone researching the Wellington bomber, and I bought my copy very cheaply so decided to give it a go.Read full review
