A bargain book , any book by Bill Bryson or Carl Hiassen is a a winner for me. Story lines and humour guaranteed by these two American authors.

Bryson has a high reputation but as soon as I came to four-letter swear-words I laid the book aside. All very trendy in America, perhaps, but some elderly English folklike me have the urge to look round for something more classy to read. A good copy, good price, sent quickly.

Although this book was written twenty years ago and is dated, it is Bill Bryson’s first impressions of the UK. These are often very amusing and reveal lots of our country’s idiosyncrasies at the time. It also shows us how times have changed.

It is a good reading but I think you need to get used to the Byson look on life about his hates and likes in life.

Unfortunately, far too many unnecessary and not-needed F-words for me to be comfortable with which is a shame coming from such a celebrated writer.
