I really like all the different amp models and settings that can be adjusted and saved for future use. I decided to buy it because my old Roland JC-120 Amp is very worn and was starting to give me some trouble with a couple of the worn out controls. I do think they should ship with the VT5 footswitch by default but alas, VOX has to make their money somewhere. This was a Manufacturer reconditioned unit so there are a couple of finish flaws in the cabinet covering and some scratchiness in the tube output pot. I sprayed it with contact cleaner and bought my own fottswitch so I'm good to go. This is a really nice LOUD amp.
I like the size, heft and appearance of the amp. I love the tone and the tons of sound options. I wish the power level dial were on top with the other settings but it is not a big deal. I like the user friendly controls and layout too. If you read the manual it all makes good sense but will still take some practice to tweak the effects properly. This amp can go from clean ringing tones (with great depth) to very brutal distortion that is still controlled and distinct instead of muddy and loose like all the other low watt amps I have played. I was afraid I would be disappointed with the 8" speaker because it might not have the same great tone as the 12" speaker in the VT50, but I must say I am in no way let down with this Vox. I feel I have got the best "bang for my buck" available in a very moderately priced amplifier. Highly recommended!Read full review
It is loud, it is heavy, it has tone and warm sustain that goes on for days. I bought this as a back up to my Marshall JCM900 Combo and I'll be honest...I am starting to play with the Vox more! No, it is not a Marshall, for sure it is not. But it has a great "British" sort of tubie sound that reminds me more of the stuff Orange or HiWatt put out. Without a pedal it handles everything just short of the most hardcore thrasher metal. If you play bluesy metal like Hendrix or Led Zep type stuff this amp will be EXACTLY what you are looking for. It's a bit heavy (70#+) and I wish it came out of the box with casters but other than that...for this price? It smokes what Line 6 & Crate had to offer me, that's for sure. And it sounds better than those "fake transistor" MG series Marshalls. I have not gigged it yet but it is plenty loud and I am sure where I play (small-medium clubs) this will be perfect.Read full review
The amp performs better than I expected. It has no noticeable Buzz or hum and the effects are excellent
