Compulsive reading
This book (the first of the Wideacre Trilogy) is so well written, with a storyline which, as you get further into the book, brings the realisation that there is a taboo undercurrent, which I loved! I have always enjoyed Philippa Gregory's novels, but this, an early work, with imaginary characters as opposed to her later novels based on historic figures, is one of the best. So are the second and third books of the trilogy.
