About this product

Product Information

Operate your audio equipment with ease and clarity using the dependable Youkits QRP radio transceiver. It has a small and compact design that makes it easily portable to take with you. It has an LCD display that shows the mode, voltage, frequency, and other details for accuracy and convenience. This radio receiver features buttons and adjustable knobs that make it easy to operate. Accompanied by an 18650 battery pack, the QRP radio receiver guarantees longer operating time. It boasts enhanced IC and hardware upgrades to provide optimum performance. Program your favorite frequencies into 30 different MEM channels and listen to your desired broadcasts. The Youkits HB-1B QRP transceiver comes in a small design that makes it easier to travel with. These radios have a lithium-ion battery pack that is removable and rechargeable for added convenience. These packs reach various ham radio or amateur radio frequencies, including 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, and 15m. The QRP has a DDS circuit for a VFO signal that can cover frequencies outside these five amateur radio bands. It also ranges from 5.9 to 22 MHz within the short-wave radio band series. The QRP kit features manually adjustable bandwidth switching to cover the 400 Hz to 3 kHz range so that you can receive SSB, AM, and CW signals. The Youkits HB1B MK3 has an LCD display that shows the frequency, the operating mode, the supply voltage, the S meter, receive fine-tuning (RIT), and the forward and reflected power levels. These all have a manual adjustment knob. These models of the Youkits radio kit use the FG-01 antenna analyzer for the TJ2B TJ5A SSB CW transceiver. The HB1B kits have 30 frequency memories to make tuning faster. You can set the ham radio band in the memory for instant access with this radio rig from Youkits. The Youkits HB-1B MK3 four-band QRP TJ2B TJ5A SSB CW transceiver can be directly connected to the antenna with the BNC connector. If you have a non-resonant antenna to use, you will need an antenna tuner for your radio to receive broadcast signals. Pressing the ATT/IF for 2 seconds will initiate the QSK setup. Clicking this button changes between QSK and 250 ms, 500 ms, and 800 ms. The screen will display TX when you are transmitting, and the S meter displays the power output. If you try to transmit outside of the five-band ham radio frequencies, the device will prevent you from making an error. To use headphones with the device, connect the stereo headset to the port market Phone. The impedance is between 8 and 32 ohms. The Youkits HB1B automatically discerns the type of key that is used, which begins when you power on the QRP. You will hear the letter A sound if your paddle is connected while the sound M is heard if the straight key is connected. The straight key must be plugged in before you power on one of these Youkits radio transceivers. This rig can use power from any source from 9-14 V DC or battery if directly connect to the power jack on the top. The HB1B includes a built-in polarity protection circuit.

  • Nice little transceiver but...

This is a very nice QRP transceiver. Delivery time from China was about 3 1/2 weeks. Packaging was excellent. I bought a battery and charger separately from Tentec but the TxVR came with a charger (but no battery). I like the firmware a lot. The manual not so much. The Chinese translation to English is terrible and the manual lacks interior photos such as battery installation and adjustable SMD locations. (Labels are very small and difficult to read on the circuit board so a photo would have been helpful). Paddle/key selection is automatic on power up and notification is via Morse. A (paddle) or M (key). There are other Morse notifications for things like speed (S), call sign (I), and tuner mode (T). The notifications are extremely low volume and are barely perceptible in my unit. My side tone pitch is too high. The manual says adjust VC1 for pitch but it has no effect on mine. There are two VC’s and 3 VR’s under the hood for adjustments. (Pitch, audio, voltage display, contrast, etc). I’m not sure if they work. I haven’t attempted adjustment other than pitch. The firmware is very easy to use, memories and VFO work great together, auto CQ send function works well. Keyer speed is via a menu and is a bit awkward. I wish it was more readily changeable like during a QSO. SWR meter is handy for tuning a mag loop. It will say “HIGH” if you’re too far off. Tune mode only works with a paddle. I’ve emailed youkits for solutions to the weak Morse notifications. I’d try the user group but responses are rare. The receiver, using only my ear as a test instrument, compared fairly well, but not as good, as my KX3 on sensitivity. I used a G5RV and an A/B switch to compare them. The S meter seems fairly accurate and useful. The TX is very close to 5 Watts with a 14 volt power supply. A bit less using the battery at 12.2 volts. Audio quality seems fine aside from the CW pitch (it’s a bit high) I used both a noise cancelling in-ear head set, an over-ear headset, and a Bose powered speaker for audio. I think this unit will be a perfect match for a magloop and airline travel. Light, easy, fun Update: The seller contacted me with information regarding the Morse code notifications. They know that they are weak and it is a design flaw. They say they will correct it in the next version of the radio. Update 2: Youkits sent me a possible solution for the weak audio on Morse notifications. A 4.7k resistor is suggested. It’s location is in the photo they sent and I have included in this review.

  • Love this little QRP radio

Excellent transceiver. I have been able to get signals from Europe and reply to them on 4 watts. Works great along with my antenna tuner and 33 feet long wire antenna. Great radio.

  • Great RX

The receiver in the HB-1B is much better than I had expected given the small size and reasonable price of this QRP rig. This with the matching tuner, a hunk of wire, and a homemade hacksaw paddle makes the perfect backpack outfit for hiking. Loads of fun.

  • Most convenient of my QRP rigs

Rx is sensitive, good Tx reports. Internal rechargeable battery and integral touch keyer make this very portable, especially with resonant (no tuner) antenna. Otherwise a ZM-2 is great companion.

  • Excellent small transceiver

It's quite small and light. Sensitivity and Tx seem quite good, although the BW is very tight, therefor the audio is a bit light. It would be nice to have variable band width. Nice having a battery voltage indicator.

  • THE HB1B MK3 XCVR

Have yet to really use it but thus far it is well crafted and certainly a value for the cost.

  • Unacceptable Performance

I built the radio per instructions, and it will transmit and receive but the tone quality is horrible! I have tried twice to get the manufacturer in China to help me with no response.
