I now have a large Celestion speaker collection and have lost count of visitors that just happen upon them when they are running and cannot believe how good their magnificent sound and visual presence are. Comments about these legends are many, but often predictable, mostly about their rich and open reproduction, fatigue free listening and superb looks. Questions usually then pile in about "who makes them", "when were they made" and "can you still get them?. Several of my visitors have since gone on the purchased their own, clearly moved by the experience, but then they are Celestions from the golden era of hi-fi, now long passed, those were the days. Ebay has kept the dream alive, but with renewed popularity comes fame and then the fortune. Prices have increased markedly in recent years, but the value for money is still there, when compared with modern lack luster designs, with their tinny high ends and gutless midrange. As for bass, how much do you want, most Celesetions can produce it by the shed load. Go on, surprise yourself and invest in some recent history, you will not be disappointedRead full review

If there were 6 stars i'd give them to these lumps. Partner with decent components and the reward is massive. Partner with mediocre stuff and you'll get a better than average performance but the bass can come across as slightly muffled. Regardless of that criticism these are much much better than anything I've come across. Bass, mids and tops all come together brilliantly with separation beyond anything I've heard around the £1000 mark. I recently sold a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 8i's that cost me £1200 in todays money. I had the choice of keeping them or these. For sensible pockets these have to rate somewhere near to being the perfect house speakers. And if the brown wood look depresses you or the wood's a bit iffy looking through wear and tare you you could do what i did and sand them down and spray them black if you know what you're doing. You'll be frowned upon by the purists but they'll look miles better in a modern setting.Read full review

Fantastic speakers, Ditton 44s were highly recommended by several friends and they are a great buy. Amazing bass, warm midrange, not too bright but clear in the upper register. Definitely recommended!

Fantastic, legendary speakers- with fabulous sound. Particularly good with classical, but work well with all styles. Drivers all working- just minor cosmetic damage. Grills had never been removed! Felt like opening a tomb when I took them off for closer inspection.

Hi to everybody! This is fabulous speakers and it's a so terrible that any factory today do not produce this quality speakers. I am not sure that any factory in the world can produce bass driver 30cm (12") who working gently and softly but strong at the same time. Celestion is , of course, very famous for 12" drivers but here we have a pair of fantastic home speakers which could be driven very easy with 60WRMS amplifier. I bought many pairs of this speakers because I recommended it to my friends. Actually I am listening in my house TDL RSTL and a few pairs of TDL Monitor reference (powered with very heavy Power amp) but if we speak about price Celestion Ditton 44 is unbeatable today. Bear in mind that this speakers was made from the spirit and knowledge from time 30 years ago (or more)... For sure is necessary to make up-grade of internal re-wiring and change capacitor in crossover - also 3 coils (with feritt) need to change with air coils. For all of this up-grading you can freely contact me and I would like to help you to make the best speakers in the world for this price... absolutely you will spend less than 600 GB pound for the speakers with all changes! (depending on how much you pay for them, where they buy, eBay or any other site). Your sincerely ...TomyRead full review
