About the colours of Ercol sideboards

  • Black
  • Blue
  • Brown
  • Green
  • Grey
Softwood vs. hardwood Ercol sideboards

Ercol sideboards are almost always made of some type of wood, and this brand offers sideboards made of both softwood and hardwood. Softwood materials used by Ercol include MDF (medium-density fibreboard), chipboard, and some types of solid wood, and sideboards made with these materials tend to be less expensive than others. Sideboards made with these materials are also usually lighter in colour, since softwood is typically tan in colour, or they are painted because they can hold paint easily. These sideboards are usually lightweight, too, though they may be susceptible to scratches and chips because softwood sideboards are not as durable as hardwood ones.

Ercol sideboards made with hardwood may be made from materials such as ash, beech, elm, or oak. These materials are very durable and are not easily scratched or damaged, and they tend to be dark brown or red in colour, so sideboards made with hardwood are not usually painted so that the natural wood colour can show through. However, these types of Ercol sideboards tend to be heavy, making them harder to move without the aid of wheels, and they may be more expensive than those made with softwood materials.

How many doors and drawers are in Ercol sideboards?

Typically, Ercol sideboards use a combination of drawers and doors to provide maximum storage space within the furniture piece. These sideboards may have up to four drawers and up to three doors. It should be noted, though, Ercol sideboards tend to use large doors and drawers, so even with as few as two doors and two drawers, one of these sideboards can still have ample storage space.

Do Ercol sideboards sit on wheels?

Some Ercol sideboards do sit on castor wheels that can be locked into place after wheeling the sideboard. However, the majority of Ercol sideboards do not include wheels and instead sit either directly on the floor or on short furniture legs.
