I didn't like the Beatles as much when they first came out. I was 12 in 1964 and I want to hold your hand came out while Elvis' Devil in Disguise was still charting with Bossa Nova Baby. By 1967 when I was 15 I was into the likes of The Who, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Blues Magoos and the whole meaningful scene in the mid 60's New York scene like the poetry of Leonard Cohen and music of the movement by The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, and The Lovin Spoonful. Lou The Beatles drew me back in with their 67 release of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." This when The Velvet Underground and Nico were re-releasing their singular album, and the Black Panthers were on the news with Patty Hearst. Then I discovered Led Zeppelin and 1969 brought it all home with Janis and Jimi, Canned Heat, and the Beatles were considered bubble gum music for a bit until the White Album. Last Poets had their album on racism out and it was not until the 70s when America calmed down, and I had a family starting that Croce and Elton and Old Beatles albums started to get a second look. Fast forward to now, and my high tech computer digital collections and my still cherished vinyl played twice, once to record to dbx NR tape for use, stored carefully and now being digitized too. Then I came full circle with this. The music I had, but these remasters are remarkable. I played the Blu-ray disk and after initially being disappointed at some of the videos being lip sync'd I realized they showed the fab four a bit more personally and I fell into the easy beats and memories they inspired. I am glad they chose the videos on the disk. This is a mood altering drug absorbed aurally and can be taken all 28 doses at once. Or just the dose you want. Get it for the trip back in time. The production, cover, and quality of the disks is masterful. You know The Beatles were all of our secret vice, of a certain age called Aquarius. And our kids who listened to them as we caught back up.Read full review
