Excellent standard lens on canon aps-c sensor equivalent to 45mm on full frame. Very soft at f1.8 but improves dramatically at f2 and is tack sharp from f2.8 up. Fast focus, though a little noisy. Feels solid and well made. Front element does not turn during focussing, so using filters is easy.

This seems to be an excellent lens it does all that I expect of it. It has great light-gathering power and at around full apeture provides a nice limited depth of field where that is wanted. On my Eos100D camera (APS-C format) this lens provides near equivalent to "standard" 35 mm film camera coverage (45 mm focal length equivalent). On the camera it provides a compact unit for carrying when out and about.

If photography is just a hobby to you, spending loads on canon L glass seems a tad over kill. But this classic 28mm focal length with a speed of 1.8 will give you a lot to play with. I am enjoying using this lens and im sure many others will. Going close in gives a lovely perspective and with the blurry background can turn the mundane into a masterpiece. Nice fast prime without having to break the bank

Love this wide angle lens, it's fast at f/1.8 very useful for landscapes. I only have an AP-C sensor camera at the moment, so it's not so wide angle, but I hope to get a full frame one and then I will test this lens again.

Sharp at the corners, colours are represented well, and a wonderful viewing range for street and documentary photography. A great lens and one to keep for decades. The only downside would be the slow focusing in low light.
