As is often the case with the older Pentax sdm lenses, the af motor fails after a while. Fortunately these lenses contain a screwdrive motor too, so I have converted this and my 50-135 to screwdrive af and they now work perfectly albeit with a little more noise but with the same speed (as far as I can tell, possibly even a smidge faster). Otherwise in good condition with only minor marks or blemishes none of which affect image quality. I used this and the 50-135 which I’m also selling to photograph my sisters wedding with really good results. No fungus or major issues with the optics, some dust as always but much less than you would find in non weather resistant lenses.

Great lens very versatile.
After having different brand cameras, mixtures of lenses I have returned to Pentax. I thought that this lens would be quite limiting however I’m totally surprised and super happy with the versatility and quality. Good lens, but beware failure of the SDM AF......
Good results from this weightly lens, but the SDM failed, and despite the lens also having a screw-drive AF, it took some research to find out how to change the lens software to enable the alternative drive to be permitted.There is a hack method outlined on the Pentaxforms website, but surely it would make more sense for Pentax to allow the choice of AF drive method using the camera's settings menu. This Pentax lens is not alone in having this quirk, and the sooner Pentax address the issue the better.Verified purchase: Yes

It's big, it's heavy but it's real quality. Impressed with the image quality so far and the SDM has been faultless so far and quick with the addition of quick manual tweaking without switching out af.
