Awesome for old cast iron skillets
I worked for Burger King many moons ago & used lye to clean the broiler parts. I remembered how well it worked & recently bought some to clean some old & caked up cast iron skillets & other assorted things. I left them in for 2 days & took them out , hosed em off & it all looked brand new. Obviously I had to re-season them all but I'm very happy with the results. I highly recommend a strong lye solution (3 lbs. to 5 gallons of water) to clean any old bacon presses, old cast iron or anything. Be sure you wear gloves as well as eye protection. It WILL blind you if splashed into your eyes. I know that's a given for most people but there are some that don't realize that it will eat the skin right off your bones. Great product
I just placed my second order. Essential Depot has the best lye for making soap. It is food grade and comes in a heavy plastic container. It ships very quickly. I order on ebay as opposed to ordering directly from their website. It is cheaper on their website but shipping is pretty high. They do have great essential oils but like I said their shipping rate is expensive. Lye Was No Lie

No reason for lye to cost so much money
Bought it to clean cast iron. I have about 20 pieces, that need a good cleaning. It is quite a shame that the price of lye got so expensive and difficult to purchase. There was a time not to long ago when you could go to any store and buy a can of drain for avfew bucks. Best lye on eBay for soapmaking :)
I use this for making soap. It's a better product (purity/consistency) with better packaging than the competition. You CAN use lower grade lye such as Red Devil for making soap, but I like this better for something I'm going to be using on my skin every day :)Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Pure Lye
