Before I purchased my Sony TG3 - I had tried several other leading brands, which claimed 1080p recording - but constantly they disappointed as none of them seemed to deliver on picture quality until I tried the Sony TG3. If your looking for outstanding high definition video - the TG3 is absolutely everything a person could wish for and it delivers as promised - Daylight video is stunning as you would expect. However, where others in this price bracket fail is normally during low light -I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, the TG3 is a very capable low light performer. Sound pick-up from the built in Mics was of high quality and you can set the camcorder up to use it's Mic as a boom mic, this quality is also very effective & good, my only slight criticism would be mic wind noise. The screen is bright and very good even in daylight, and the touch screen is a breeze, another plus is Sony's zoom feature, how often do you get an camcorder with an high speed erratic zoom control - not with the TG3 the zoom function is a dream it's nice and smoothly controlled and produces a steady stabilized movement. I found battery life with the supplied battery is at best reasonable - but every camera doesn't quite achieve the makers claims and the Sony is no exception - I used a fully charged battery while taking just 18 mins of video during 95mins of standby. The battery power is constantly drained away in standby mode despite claims that it won't do this , I found significant benefits in switching the camera completly off when not in use. But for a day out you would need a least a couple of batteries - and unfortunately a Sony original genuine battery doesn't come cheap I found quotations between £35 to around £70. The TG3 uses the Sony PRODuo cards - they are more expensive than SDHC, and to get approx just over 1 hour full 1080 video, you need at least an 8gb card. In summary - The Sony TG3 is a excellent performer, and extremely good value - a used TG3 can sell around £250.00 amazing value - considering this camera originally was almost 3 times this amount. If picture quality, sound and portability is important you can't go wrong. However the bad points - The type of memory ProDuo - not as cheap or as widely used as SDHC however (ProDuo adapters are cheap and widely avaiable to convert to USB) so not really a problem. The camcorder build quality is excellent and absolutely top draw - and I have to say typically Sony, I would just question the 80's look and colour of the unit. Batteries are expensive, but if quality is number one on your list and not the expensive accessories of running it - buy it, you won't regret it!!Read full review
The built quality of the camera is very good. It is not too heavy or too light. It is easy to operate. One downside is it is grainy when you used it in low condition light but the picture quality outside is superb. Another downside is the price is bit expensive as well. But I bought it bargain for £195 here on ebay.
This camera is like a little power house. Feature packed, various formats to save including HD. This syncs very easily with my Mac which is a plus. Small enough to fit in your pocket as well. Down side. No night light, no case and certain leads have to be bought ( sony for you ) and only a 4 gig card. Battery life is fair. But for the size it's worth the sacrifice.
Very compact and outstanding quality lens, the still photos are not so good but the HD video is superb even in room lighting the build quality is excellent as all Sony products and I would recommend this camera also I bought Sony Vegas software to go with it and it works perfectly
Excellent camcorder, easy to use , light weight. Just be shure that is the one that you need.HD is alredy here Sony is a reliable name, so if you like it, go for it with confidence
