  • X8R for the win - again!

I have a 52 plate Zafira that's done 300,000 miles. I had previously fitted a similar item from a different source at approx 165,000. OK that was 4 years ago but there was an obvious difference in quality - the fit and finish of the X8R components is much better. The other was way too tight initially and wore quite quickly to the way the original was. This kit includes a crank pivot pin, which the previous one did not. That has helped too but at this mileage I also have wear in the crank itself - maybe this part could be offered as an option as not everyone would need it? If you are fitting this renovation kit on a vehicle that hasn't had one before, you can mark the serrated ends of the gear linkage cables before dismantling to help optimise alignment afterwards. Thoroughly clean the "cue ball" of old grease and dirt, reassemble with some clear grease. If your gearstick gaiter is torn, replace that at the same time to prevent debris getting into the bearing area and causing premature wear. I did this job because the centre console had to come out for another reason - the heater matrix o-rings had gone brittle and were leaking coolant onto the carpet. Two birds with one stone so to speak. I titled the review "X8R for the win - again!" because I've used X8R component kits before, for BMW VANOS.

  • Gear change like new again on a 15 year old Zafira

Looks identical to the original design. Hardest part was getting the centre tunnel off the car to access the gear selector as there's little info online. Be aware you may have 6 screws holding the lower front in place, 2 are hidden until you undo the other 4 and pull back the plastic in the footwells. It's also a good idea to leave the gearbox in neutral before undoing the cable clamps as it needs to be in neutral to set up and access under bonnet is restricted. Got it done and what a difference, no wobble just perfect again like the day we picked it up brand new. The old one was that worn it broke into small pieces on removal. I did readjust the cable a little once, as 1st was a little tricky once or twice but now it slides straight into all gears. Many thanks for producing the part, it works a treat.

  • Great product, big improvement

Excellent. The parts included are excellent quality. Be aware that it can be a bit tricky to strip the lever mechanism to get to the parts. I had to remove it from the car. It would be even better if: In the instructional video provided, it would help to mention how to detach the mechanisms from the cables, and to reset them correctly. I would like to see a little sachet of suitable grease (Silicone?) included. Also a little cylindrical shim of thin steel, brass, or aluminium to go around the black pivot shaft inside the white linkage, as this part wears too. I cut out a strip from a drink can to suit.

  • Smoother gear change

Took about 30/40 mins to remove old and put in new. To clip the gear linkage together you need to put a short socket under the bit where it needs tapping in- but put the short bit of plastic in on the side 1st. It's worth taking the small surround off, lift up the small plastic bit under the handbrake, then undo the the 2 screws then the surround clips off. X8r have a video of the step by step, just have a bit of grease to hand before you take apart. It's made the gears smoother. Keep it in neutral before u start as it will make sense where to position the mechanism when resembling. Also when you put the metal U-clip back in at the end put it between the ridges as I pushed mine all the way in and gear shift wouldn't move so moved it out and all good

  • Brilliant

Thank you for a good item. Since owning the car I've always had very bad play within the ball joint on the gearstick (9 years). I always thought it was normal. Changing gear and getting it into 1st and 2nd was forceful especially when cold. 3 years ago I thought changing the gearbox oil would do the trick but still had the bad gears changes so decided to just live with it. It was only until I was looking on youtube I came across your video regarding this. I so glad I came across that video. I purchased the kit on the Saturday and fitted today. All gear changes are smooth and there's no more play within the gearstick ball joint. Thanks again

  • Gear shift repair bush for my astra h

I brought this product as i was having problems selecting 1st gear and if it worked would be a cheap fix. I watched the youtube video and thought fairly straight forward but me in my infinite wisdom decides not to strip out the centre consol. Everything came out fairly easy apart from the gear stick fitting on the bottom cable which took some stiff pulling any way all out and new o rings in and bush but fitting the gear stick back into the bottom cable proved to be a pain(this is why you should strip the centre consol back for ease ) any way i managed to place a socket under the cable so you can then push(with a bit of force) the gear stick back on. All said and done still did it in under 1 hour just a bit more fiddly:) The only thing i had to do is file a bit of the edging for the reverse as it was a tad tight but its worked a treat, now its like new so i would highly recommend this company and product.

  • Great item, 100% better gear changes.

Great item, easy to fit, actually did it without taking the housing out of the car. 100% better gear changes, all wobble gone and easy to drive again. Would have no problems recommending this product.

  • Awesome product.

Bought a cheaper version of the same gearstick repair bush and the gear stick felt worse. So I purchased this one from here and wow what a difference gearstick is solid again no more crashing going in to first or forcing it in to 1st, if you have an f23 gearbox with a sloppy gearstick and having trouble getting it in to gear/crashing this is the answer to your problems!

  • Spot on!

Firstly I’ve bought from x8r before- they always dispatch promptly and I’ve always been amazed how quickly their items arrive! As per this item -well as usual top quality and worked perfectly….may I add they X8r have also made a detailed YouTube video to show you how to fit this! (Maybe make that a bit clearer that it exists as I found it by accident!)
