That white plastic washer was just made to get lost. Mine dropped down a hole in the floor when I removed my sink drain to clean it. Ebay was the only place that had the replacement part. Everywhere else was "out of stock." Not happy with American Standard for designing this system for their pop-up drains but the replacement part is good quality. It's made of heavy plastic and fits perfectly.
