Short Life for Good Coffee Maker

I've gone through four or five of these Grind and Brew units from Cuisinart over the past several years. With regular home use they seem to last about two years and then the circuit board or controller chip fails. That leaves you with a coffee maker that cannot follow a program or may not operate the way it is designed to. Nevertheless, I keep buying them because they do the job while they last and are less expensive than similar units from rival manufacturers.

    Best for single people only.

The vessel for holding the beans is too small for a 10-cup brew. The grinding leaves chunks of beans. There is no option on how you want the beans ground. The carafe does NOT keep the coffee warm for long; maybe an hour or less. The full bean vessel and the gold filter device both require cleaning after each use. Not what I expected, and should have read the description of this particular model more thoroughly. I'm selling it on my own, as the return fee was half the price of the coffee maker! Then I'll upgrade and pay the extra $100 to a higher capacity coffee been vessel.

  • Great Coffee Maker - Used it for years

I love this coffee maker. They have made it for many many years, and have only tweeked the features of it ever so slightly. This is a replacement for the exact same model that I had for at least 9 years. My old one just stopped getting super hot. I think it was the element. They last a long time, and brew very high quality coffee. I do not use the grinder (go figure). I use 8 O'Clock Coffee, and Starbucks. I don't use the gold filter, it's just too much to clean, along with all the other components. This is totally worth the cost, weather you buy a new one at $120 or a refurb. This is my 3rd model of the series. The carafe keeps the coffee hot. I have the 10 cup model. For when people come over, I do wish I had the 12 cup, but the 12 cup only comes in glass. I love this model. I hope they continue to make it. Buy it!

  • Best One Yet

This product (Cuisinart DGB-650BCFR 10 Cup Grind-and-Brew Thermal Automatic Coffeemaker) represents a 15 year progression in which the manufacturer has tried to improve its product and managed to market it at a reasonable price. I have limped along for the last 4 years with an old one that refused to completely die instead of paying the prices that I found a new one cost ($140+), looking while living inside and outside the U.S. This one is slightly smaller at 10 cups instead of 12, but the extra 2 cup capacity will not be missed. If you are willing to spend the time each day in cleaning this machine, today you will find it refined and finally moderately priced, coming with a substantial 3 year warranty, and should give 5 + years of good performance. The curious thing is that it has no competition in the 'Grind and Brew' category ?? I have not found anybody else who makes a comparable product. I bought it 1 month ago, but it is my 5th same unit over the last 15 years, as two of the five broke down with software problems and were replaced under warranty.

  • Best Way to Brew Fresh Ground Coffee

I love the fresh ground coffee into a thermal carafe. I do not clean the grinder daily, but pull out parts to let them dry & rinse the carafe. It also filters your water. If you have a little more time, here's how I brew my perfect cup: mix decaf & regular beans to get desired strength & grind. Stop the machine & push the "no grind" button. Preboil some water, and pour it in the carafe to preheat. Pour a bit of hot water over the fresh-ground beans to moisten. Empty the carafe, put on the lid, push start, and you get the perfect cup to sip throughout the day. I never want another coffee maker.

  • Wake up to fresh...

Like the grind & brew. 3rd unit. They average about 10 years of constant use. Only thing I do not like is the pour spout on the carafe. Just not direct and neat. Seems to be the way. Have encountered similar flaw in other brands.

  • my 2nd one

I owned the first for over 5 years and would not think of owning any other coffee maker. Love the program feature. Coffee stays hot for many hours with the thermal coffee pot. Really enjoy fresh ground beans, that this coffee maker grinds itself.

  • Wish it had a keep warm feature

Grinds great, makes great coffee, easy to program. Thermal carafe keeps coffee hotish - just how I like it. My wife likes scalding hot coffee, so microwaves her cup if the pot has been sitting for a while. No big deal.

  • Coffee grinder

Coffee maker works well. Carafe is awesome. However, a few issues not mentioned in other reviews. 1 - Grinder is NOT a good grinder. Coffee grounds cake up around the edges of the head trapping unground beans. Grinding head is of poor design. 2 - When brewing, if you by chance overfill the wat storage part, your carafe will run over. Making a big mess.

  • Great features - Everything that I love

I have used this exact coffeemaker for 7+ years every day and some days more than once. It always preformed wonderful. It finally gave out grinding. We were very sad and happily found this one, ordered immediately. It was shipped quickly. It is great! I recommend it to anyone that loves good coffee. Thanks so very much.
