This is really a pointless review because the camera is no longer made. It is, however, still a great little camera. Small, robust and takes a good picture. It is simple to use and, above all, and unlike many current models, it has an eye level viewfinder. More recent cameras have more pixels and greater telephoto range - good. But a viewfinder is still important in bright conditions where the screen can be very difficult to see. Moreover a camera held close to the eye is easy to keep steady in the hand than one held a foot or so in front of the face, hence sharper pictures at slower shutter speeds. A proper electronic flash helps to freeze indoor shots better than a short burst of light from a LED. I wish they made something similar today!

Had two of these cameras previously. Failed for various reasons. Have a waterproof housing for it & takes great U/W photos. Small & easily managed. Reason for low mark is the battery difficult to remove. Like housing has been crushed.

Excellent little camera that delivers all you could want from a 5mp digital hand held point & shoot, has both macro & super macro functions for those up very close micro item shots which I find of great use over most cameras in this price range, as you would expect from pentax, there is a very user friendly menu & ease of operation for even the most technophobe among us. Extremely light & compact, will fit even the smallest of pockets without any fuss, a real great all rounder for the beginner or experienced a like, good choice for the first time digital camera user I.E children. I had one of these several years ago & as such have bought one for each of my daughters as a Christmas gift this year.
Over the years I've used cameras of various types from basic to top range 35mm SLR units, progressing onto the 'digital' age where I've also had the use of both digi' slr, and compact 'point and shoot'cameras such as the S5i. 'Pentax' have a reputation of producing top quality items, and I've found my S5i' ( bought via ebay !), to be capable of taking brilliant quality pictures, ( 5 Mp. is more than enough for most occasions unless you need 'poster sized prints!), and it has both a large lcd viewing screen and a separate viewfinder, also linked to the zoom facility, for very sunny days when nearly all Lcd screens are rendered unusable ! It's smart, brushed aluminium casing and extremely compact size makes it comfortable, yet easy to use and the docking station is very useful as it can not only charge a battery in the camera, but, in addition a 'spare' battery in the dock itself. - A spare battery is a really useful addition to have though !! Used in its 'simple' mode, with the 'on screen' options, anyone can take gr8 photo's, but, in addition, using the menu options, the more adventurous can not only satisfy their 'technical' needs, but can also 'edit' the resulting frames in the camera before downloading and printing or storing the results. Better value and easier to use than its successor the Svi,(I've used both!), and for size, quality and general capabilities, the S5i will take a lot of beating ! - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!Read full review
i have been very pleased with my S5i, very small i cary it with me all the time, and menu navigation is a joy as they are so simple and easy to access, full marks to pentax for a very well thought out user interface, and the info desplayed on the screen is very comprehensive and can be switched on and off at the touch of a button. it takes great pics...in the daylight. my one beef about this camera is it is not good at takeing pics at night, i am compareing it to my previouse digi camera, a 1.3 mega pixel olympus camedia c-920 zoom which was very good at captureing night shots without digital noise.
