The 7900 works in part, and isn't repairable, like many other identical units of the same age.
The camera is clean and apparently undamaged, but suffers from a major fault which I expect is common to most of the Coolpix 7900s in circulation. It (like most digital cameras) has a power back-up system to keep the internal clock running, and retain the user's preference settings while changing the main battery. I'm not sure whether it has a micro-battery, or a so-called supercapacitor, but they're much the same in practice, and they die of old age, which also puts an extra drain on the main battery, flattening it early, because it's continually trying to charge the back-up unit.. The camera is usable if you remove the main battery after each session, but you then have to go through and re-set your preferences every time you use the camera. In principle the energy storage element could be replaced, but even when the cameras were new, Nikon used to just write off the faulty camera, and send the owner a new one, rather than trying to replace the part on the main circuit board, . I might try it myself, but the chances of destroying the camera are about 50:50, and it will take a lot of delicate precision work.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
