  • Get flopping

A primitive but amusing digicam from 2001 that records onto floppy disc. This was from an era when solid state memory was expensive and everyone had a PC with a floppy drive - I relied on them for backups! Controls are simple - no interminable menus and settings you will never use - picture quality is bad, you only get a 640 x 480... but you can get about 20 of those on a floppy disc... the on board battery (the one that keeps the clock going) is easily replaceable, which is a plus. It is slow to write but you get an amusing display while it whirs furiously. No good for sports then... There are other Sony floppycams but some of them use memory cards as well, which sort of spoils it - and they are no faster - this is pure floppiness. Mine was faulty but it was fairly simple to repair, the floppy ejector lever had jammed. If you can get a good one in box with charger, battery and instructions it is a good collectors item, and will raise a smile or two at parties.

  • VGAas good as it gets!

Yes, of course it is only VGA 640-480 resolution which by today's standards (2019) isn't good. However, compare like for like; I have. Looking at the results from other VGA cameras from 1999, the picture quality & colour is unbelievably better from the Sony Mavica range of FDD cameras when compared with other brands of the same resolution & year.
