Canon put in a little more attention to detail. The English manual is 150 pages long and covers a great deal about photography and links it to the use of your camera. The software which comes with the camera is good but you are not forced to use it as the camera photos are in standard computer readable format. Any computer will pick up the pictures from the USB cable, no drivers required. The video format is standard AVI which works with anything. The memory card is standard Compact Flash, I use quite a large 512MB which holds hundreds of photos but I expect you could use a bigger one still but try it first. The camera is easy to operate with both a screen and a viewfinder. The picture quality is fine also. It is sufficiently high resolution that you can blow up sections of the picture quite large and it still looks good. 3Megapixels was all the rage when this came out but 7 to 12 megapixels are being boasted about now. The 3 Megapixel resolution was probably the point where digital cameras overtook film cameras in almost all respects. The main thing about this camera is that it's very solid competant and standard. It's made of metal, it feels expensive. Expect to pay about 50 to £60 for one with all the software and cables. Replacement batteries and charges are readily available since the same battery is used in loads of Canon models. The memory card is even more standard, it's the original camera memory card as used in the top of the range Canon EOS and also all over the computer and engineering industries. If you see one, get it.Read full review
For a basic point and shoot low mega pixal camera this is well worth having as it does have the odd extra feature. I use it with an underwater housing and external slave flash and the results are first class just takes a little bit of playing about to get is set right. Can't go wrong as an entry level camera that has the versitility of fitting into a 30M rated underwater housing. I own several along with several underwater housings.Great to throw in a dry bag when kayaking too.
I love this camera as i borrowed a friends the ixus v2 and i found it very easy to work and it gives out great pictures so i decided to treat myself to one especialy after i had tried and tested my friends so i knew what i was buying and i got a great deal with it as well.
