  • I love the Nikon D3

A no nonesense relatively easy to use & solid as a rock camera. This model has had no recalls + updating the firmware is so straight forward. Quite weighty only well balanced at the same time. Battery life is good. Bayonet lens mount is backwards compatible so AI manual focus lenses can be used without any problems which means if you already have a Nikon manual focus camera & lenses you can use the lenses on this camera as 35mm film negatives are the same size as FX format or so near there's no practical difference.

  • Ridiculous value for money

Having converted to mirrorless a few years ago (mainly Fuji & now Panasonic FF) I did start to miss parts of the DSLR experience. I had held on to a 50mm lens from my old Nikon kit in case I bought another one day. I picked up my D3 with 170k shots for £350 - that's pocket camera money! Great condition pro-spec camera with plenty of life left in it. It won't go everywhere with me like my smaller mirrorless cameras but when you want to get out just to take pictures it's a really rewarding experience. Great build and handling, brilliant autofocus, really nice optical viewfinder, a battery that lasts for thousands of shots (what a refreshing change!), a portrait grip etc etc. This is an absolute steal if you are just into making pictures. It's 12MP but I'm constantly amazed at how many photographers think they need high resolution - unless you are making huge prints or cannot frame your pictures properly so need to crop heavily - it's just slightly pointless. I have numerous A3 (and even some A2) prints from a 6MP sensor which are perfectly presented. Do we also need modern niceties like eye detection and animal detection? Is it not just making us lazy photographers? This D3 is a photographic tool that produces some stunning images - and the user experience is spot on. Even if you are just curious it's worth buying one!

  • The best value Old professional camera

As an retired professional press photographer this is the best camera to have for the money Sure it’s old now but still has big enough pixels to produce great pictures and large prints if required It’s indestructible Great to use not hard to learn Better than most of the recent Nikon offerings Best value for the money Try to find one with a low shutter count Enjoy

  • Not new but still very competitive camera

It surprise me with its ISO range, it delivered to my address on Friday and next day I was official boxing night photographer and took my "new" Nikon D3s as my second camera. It did extraordinary job in very low light and fast sport like boxing is. ISO 6400 to 8000 shutter speed at least 1/350 and picture are brilliant, stable and no big noise on it. That was very tough night to me and to my cameras an NIkon D3s fully pass the test. Makes me very happy.

  • Workhorse

D3s is a great workhorse and still relevant in 2024. Not light or discete. If shutter hasn't failed by 150K they go on and on, some passing 1 million clicks! My main work D3s camera has passed 600K without problems but has never got soaked! Getting spares is proving difficult. Nikon no loger support

  • Excellent Camera and now affordable too!

Once the flagship Nikon camera and recently replaced by the D5 the D4 is still a fantastic camera. With the aforementioned newer version out the time has never been better to upgrade your camera set up to the D4 if the D5 is out of your price range. A step up from the D3 series and introducing XQD for the first time, you won't go wrong with this camera.

  • My best camera

I have owned and used many Nikon cameras, making them work all over the world in various situations and climates. I wanted good and sharp images with easy access to menus and controls. My last camera was a D800 which was a disappointment because whilst it gave a superb image in quiet studio type environments I found it slow and cumbersome in the world of nature and fast movement in poor light. The D3s although an older camera is equipped with incredible shooting speed coupled with low light capability; fantastic for the African bush in the evening when action is fast and furious. I love the feel and quality of this camera and will find it very difficult to replace.

  • Classic camera all I need

The D2X I used for years was a great camera but being DX always limiting for my pro work in architecture and heritage - as did the deteriorating quality above 800 ASA. Moving to the D3 was seamless. The D3 may be old but is not outdated - 12mp is good enough for anyone - and being FX solves the wide angle issues. As easy or as complex to use as you need and the high ISO quality is superb. Reliable pro tool, used in wind, rain and dusty attics - always in the bag and ready for use. Biggest bargain out there.
