The Nikon D70 is not the most recent development in digital camera technology. It is nevertheless perfectly functional, allowing the production of quality images with the use of Nikon lenses. I acquired this one from a reliable dealer, herself an artist and photographer. I am very pleased to experience the use of a camera that, although oversized and heavy, can justify the reputation attributed to its manufacturer. I can't say I will be using this as my every day camera but it is certainly for the special moment when it will fit in as 'an objet d'art'.

Although an older, earlier dslr the performance is not up to the latest ones 6 not 12 or24 Mps . No live view, playback on a small screen. But it’s a nice handful.and reasonable pictures. I enjoy using it

Takes Nikon lenses, is cheap, versatile and although dated, provides good backup for main camera. Main drawback is that it requires special memory cards instead of SD cards. No video capability.

Although i have a new Nikon D3100 i wanted to "go back in time" to the D70 as it has a faster flash sync speed than just about any other non pro DSLR. I take many images for web and magazine publication of motorcycle trials riding, and most of the events are held in woodland so the fast flash sync is brilliant on this camera.. enabling me to capture the bikes at speed but in the relative darkness. The D70 is larger than the D3100 and this actually makes it easier to use when wearing gloves to keep the cold at bay!! And of course the price and availability of the AF lenses is much better than the lenses needed on the modern DX models as they don't have to have the motor inside the lens. Only minus point i can think of is that the rear screen is very small compared to the newer models, but then the camera is around 6 years old now and i don't use the screen much when i am out an about shooting pictures at a muddy cold event.Read full review
Although the camera has been out of production for several years and has a very modest pixel count (6.1 meg) it is still capable of very god quality photographs. I have always liked a view finder rather than composing on the back screen but have been put off by the costs. Buying this camera and initially using older Nikon lens that I had from film cameras I was able to get very presentable results. I am now adding to my lens with more modern versions that function with a DSLR and will eventually buy a more modern camera body when funds allow. At the moment there is no rush as the image quality I am getting is easily good enough to print up to A4 .
