My husband and I have previously had the DAB2 and the black DAB5 with the rechargeable batteries, and really liked them. This model uses ordinary batteries, so you can't plug it in at home and charge it, which is very wasteful in this time of climate change. It has buttons for pre-selected channels (which is a good idea) but they have been placed on the top surface next to the on/off button, and it's easy to change channels by mistake. Unlike the old models it doesn't have an aerial, but relies on the headphone cable, which means you cannot use it with a small speaker when you wish to use the radio at home, and it's dependent on the attributes of the headphone cables, working better with some than others.. Unlike the old model it doesn't have a speaker either ... the latter wasn't much use most of the time, but did work OK on very low volumes.Read full review

Quite a big unit for a pocket radio but lightweight and it means it takes AA batteries last really well. I'm using rechargables and have no problems. Signal pickup is excellent and you can rescan to add stations if you visit another area without it forgetting all your previous stations. It has 5 presets for DAB and 5 for FM. For other stations you have to use the fiddly jog-wheel to select. This is a real pain as for a pocket radio I just want to go through stations to find something i like with up/down buttons but this doesn't work simply like that. It takes two jogs to change station as long as you don't accidentally press-in at the same time or you end up in a random menu.

By far and away , the best I have ever bought to date. First class sounds, reception, build quality, and really easy to operate. Well done Roberts.

This Roberts radio is replacing a cheaper non Roberts radio I bought last year which was U/S. The presets for DAB and FM are easy to set and the small sliding lock on the back is easy to set and prevents the radio from losing its channel etc. The slight drawback is, as the radio has no built in battery as per my previous Roberts models, so need to put in 2x rechargeable batteries which need ideally another couple of batteries to alternate with as on DAB, the batteries dont last too long and you need to have charged up ones ready in order not to miss the end of a programme.
