You Will Need To Fettle It

Initial impressions are of a really well made product. Sadly that is not the case. The screw threads on the pipe clamping bolt do not go far enough down so the nut bottoms out before you can get it tight. Tightening it causes the threads to be damaged. Because of this it is not possible to flare the pipe as the flaring tool pushes the pipe through the clamp. This was resolved by countersinking the nut to provide clearance. I also filed some of the metal away at the hinge to ensure that this was not interfering with the clamping action and checked for clearance with a strip of paper acting as a feeler gauge . I would have liked an all steel construction as I fear the alloy will not last as long. Having done all this it now works as it should have straight out of the box. I did not expect these problems with a quality brand like this .

  • good

after years of faffing with chear 15 quid tools, i decided to bite the bullet and buy this as i needed to create bubble flares. Im using cupro nickel lines so its tough to drive the die in, but ok when used in a vice. You wouldnt want to use it to do hard lines whilst fitted on the car. Wish i bought it years ago. Would have saved me a whole heap of hassle!!

  • Best tools I have purchased for a long time. Worth every penny.

Although it does cost quite a bit more than the similar alternatives, the quality is absolutely superb and is easy to use. Especially for flaring steel pipe as it is much harder to achieve “on the car” than “on the bench”. But the S&P kit worked really well and enables a relatively effortless results, first time.

  • Sykes Pickavant top quality brake line flaring tool.

This is a quality tool. The instructions are poor, probably because it's aimed at professionals, but once you work out which punch is the metric one (not obvious) and how tight you need to clamp the pipe, then it is brilliant. Creating a DIN/ISO bubble flare on kunifer pipe is really easy and it's only one operation.

  • Flare tool for DIN and SAE

this is a great bit of kit, robust and really well made, plus easy to use on DIN and SAE flares. No problem on steel lines, due to the clamp and hydraulic action for perfect flares, when making repairs and joining lines, and can be used on the car in situ. double flares are no problem for this tool, recommend for the DIY and professional mechanic. can be up graded with dies to work on and make 6mm pipe flares. Watch videos online, and practice a few times before final flare. - lots of info on how to flare brake pipes. Get a hand held pipe bender and a decent quality mini pipe cutter and you are good to go.The pipe cutter needs to be good quality for a clean flush cut especially on steel pipes for the flare to work, so don't skimp get a monument cutter or similar quality. Happy days and happy flares.

  • excellant tool

this tool is essential for repairing steel brake pipes the normal run of the mill tools will only flare copper pipes, so if yours has steel pipes this is your only option

  • Excellent product

Quality well above many on the market. Flares steel pipes with ease where some other makes are not robust enough to cope. Is compact enough to enable in-situ flares.

  • Sykes Pickavant flaring tool

the only tool to use for steel pipes, other types work well on copper but fail to clamp steel pipes to form the flare.
