Great media streaming device for a surround sound receiver.
I could not stream Amazon Prime thru my PC's Graphics card w/ an HDMI output. I don't know if they did that on purpose or not. I get Prime for $7 a month since i am on SSD and have a EBT card. I got the Fire TV Cube because i can plug it into my receiver. it works great for hearing shows and movies in surround sound on my 7.1 system. First thing i have been binge watching the full series of House, So i pause it and ask Alexa about all the diseases and procedures i am not familiar w/ and it knows about 3/4s of them. i call this really great fun being a science nerd. i am doubling my medical/scientific vocabulary!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

Beware of all the operational issues before you buy!!
This product malfunctions when it is near any other Bluetooth device including Alexa. You have to learn tricks to use to make it function. Once you learn the tricks it delivers all the media and works with all the apps you want. Scan the Internet for "problems with Fire TV Cube" and you will see dozens of listed complaints - all with same/similar problems. Cube rocks
Great streaming device, easy to set up, easy to side load and super fast! Improved picture and sound with no buffering! Gen 2 is a must and Troy point is a great app to download apps. Have streamed for many years and cut the cable and this unit fills all the voids! Best ever firstborn device! A must own for cable cutters!

Buy this model instead of the new model
I've been using cheap streaming sticks and boxes for a while and just got tired of them, the performance just starts falling up to the point that they become unusable. I already had a Nvidia Shield that I bought in 2017 and has been a fantastic device, I was looking at a cheaper alternative with about the same or similar specs and found this jewel. The Fire TV Cube has very impressive specs with a 6 core CPU, 2BG of RAM and decent storage size of 16GB. The specs are almost identical to the new 2022 model so save your money and buy this one instead. I mostly use Sling, Netflix, HDHomerun, Plex, Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max. Every single one of those apps performs excellent. There is no lag while scrolling through the guide on Sling and channel switching is very responsive and smooth. The other apps I've mentioned also perform as they should. My only complain would be the amount of Prime Video ads in the home screen. It's something that you cannot change but after a while you just get used to it. It works well but is far from perfect
I actually expected the cube to be better. It is easy to set up and for basic functions it works well. I can turn on and off my TV, my soundbar, my smart outlets and view my security cameras. I cannot get it to change the inputs on my TV, but my TV is 8 years old, so maybe not compatible? Then sometimes Alexa does not seem to understand what I want it to do. Works a lot faster then my Fire stick w/8 gb Cube comes with 16gb, set up is very simple by following instructions on screen, does most of set up for you just answer a few questions away you go. Good to control TV and receiver as well as Cube functions with the one remote
Does what it is supposed to do. Nice that it has HDR now. I like that I can turn on and off the TV and receiver, and control the volume or mute it with the Cube's remote. That's all that is needed most days. I don't like that it can interrupt the TV show if it thinks you said the wake word and it thinks it is supposed to show you something on screen. I have another Echo in the room so I just changed the Cube's wake word to 'Echo' and only use that if I want to control the TV or receiver volume using voice. I have an Echo Show in the room that I use for all other 'Alexa' uses. I rarely say anything that sounds like 'Echo' so I rarely have interruptions now.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great cord-cutting option
I have the previous version of the cube and I really like the update with the volume control included on the remote. Amazon Fire Cube Good Buy
Has double the space than a Firestick. Allows to download more apps. It's 4k, but gives good picture quality on non 4k tvs. Mine is non 4k. Did have a little difficulty at first with operation, but have figured it out. Works a little different from a Firestick. Bought 2 of them. Looking to buy a 3rd. one.
