Wider Context Review (Summaries should be "Don't Know")
I’m answering your request for information reference the above.
Apologies for the length of this message, and that much is not necessarily relevant to you, but it might just be helpful in a wider context.
I am over 80 years in age, I have professional qualifications in Biology but not in Medicine or Biochemistry.
Twelve years ago this month I was referred to a specialist regarding a prostate problem. He said it was well enlarged but no other issue, so what would I want to do about it? When I said that I would deal with it myself, he offered to see me again if and when I needed. I have not been back – yet!
For eleven of those years, I basically treated my own prostate, as a guinea pig, as there seems to be no completely reliable information or solutions regarding the “alternative” approach, although some, especially in the USA, seem to think they know it all – mainly in order to sell their preparations, which vary considerably in content, and probably in effectiveness!
After a few years of trial-and-error, and so on, I reached a reasonably stable state; not perfect but not problematic, using one main proprietary preparation and two subsidiary ones, daily. As you may guess, the main ingredients of these preparations are Selenium, Zinc, Saw Palmetto and plant sterols, but between these three preparations were also25 or so other extracts, such as from grape seeds, pumpkin seeds, pine bark, nettle, pollen, green tea, and so on. After reading round the subject regularly, I find no workable consensus about which of these plant extracts are actually the most important influences
In one of the subsidiary preparations, Quercetin is mentioned, but no concentration given, so probably a very small amount.
Last January, having just had the first AZ vaccination, I contracted Covid, which resulted in a week or so of high temperature, various joint aches and pains, taste changes, but no cough or chest problem. My immunity seems to have been strong but, unfortunately, after the week or so, my prostate treatment had been virtually nullified, and it took about six months to get the relative stability back, partly by increasing the intake of my main preparation, continually, to 50% above the daily recommendation!
Last Autumn I had the third vaccination, this time Pfizer, which gave me 36 hours of high temperature, uncomfortableness and, again, lost control of the prostate, which I’m still attempting to re-establish. Part of this task has been to look again elsewhere for helpful ideas, including in the USA.
I found one compound for sale which seems to have good support, so I checked the eight ingredients, five of which are already included in my daily intake, and the sixth one , Boron, is readily available from dietary vegetables, and so on.
The other two ingredients are Quercetin and Bromelain and, in looking for possible sources of these, found your Quercetin Complex and ordered from you. The immune support, antioxidant claim, and possible help in lowering blood pressure (mentioned for Quercetin elsewhere) were added incentives.
My intention was to add Quercetin and Bromelain to my current intake and, hopefully, mimic the popular preparation which I had discovered, so two weeks ago I started taking one Quercetin Complex unit each day, at mid-morning with a drink.
But it was adisaster!!!!
Gradually, prostate anti-symptoms developed, but I decided not to be too hasty, but to persevere for a few days in order to assess more fully. After 6 days the situation was desperate, the prostate seemed to be without control, so I stopped taking your Quercetin Complex immediately, a week ago. I’m now having great difficulty in re-gaining control of the prostate and, unless things improve very soon, I shall be back to the specialist and facing the “traditional” approach, which is what I have been desperately trying to avoid.
There is no blame to your product because of no indication that it might or should be used in the situation which I describe. There is also no indication as to which of your ingredients was responsible for the outcome. Unfortunately, my plan was ill-founded and the result is to feel very depressed about the whole episode.
Finally, I’m not necessarily expecting any reply to this message, so please feel under no obligation. I hope that the whole thing might prove to be of use or help to you somehow?
With regards
David
