On the eve of the American War of Independence Britain's cannon foundries were in a state of crisis. They couldn't produce sufficient high quality cannon to meet the needs of the armed forces. The solution was to look abroad for help and so the Board pf Ordnance brought in two experienced Dutch master- founders. The book tells their story, the methods they used to improve the situation and their impact on future operations. Illustrated by 50 unique drawings by Jan Verbruggen showing the factory layout and the processes used by the Verbruggens to improve the situation.
