Essential to maintain waterproofing on outdoor gear
I have used this product for a number of years. Waterproof breathable garments lose their ability to shed water after a period of time and need cleaning and reproofing. Ordinary detergents are too harsh and will strip the water repellent properties from the garment. Tech Wash is a more gentle cleaner which also revitalises the water repellent properties of the fabric. However as it is a gentle detergent it does struggle to completely remove ground in dirt, so don't leave it too long before you wash! Particularly dirty areas should be treated with neat Tech Wash and a sponge or a soft nylon brush before washing. Relatively new garments or those recently waterproofed will have their water repellent properties renewed by Tech Wash alone. Use TxDirect to renew waterproofing on garments that have not been re-proofed for some time. Simply machine wash one or two garments at a time with the appropriate quantity of Tech Wash (100 ml for soft water areas, 150 ml if you have medium or hard water) following the garment care label instructions. If you need to reproof, follow this with another washing cycle using the same quantities of TxDIrect. This will also lubricate zips on the garment, an added bonus! Available in 300 ml and 1 L bottles, the larger sizes are much more economical. Expensive? yes, compared to ordinary detergents, but not if you want your waterproof clothes to continue to keep you dry!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

change of instructions advised
i first used wash and washin on our light weight blue water proof jackets .they energed covered in tiny white spots--it seemed the washin did not dissolve even in a second 60 degree wash . i then tried again with another pair of black jackets , but this time i pre dissolved the washin in a litre of hot water before adding to washing machine . again washed - in at 60 degrees ---much better !!!!! appears to have water proofed ok . the comng winter will tell.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Easy to Use
Simple and efficient way to reproof your clothing. I use it for my motorbike textile clothing and have had excellent results. Just make sure all traces of normal detergent are removed from the washing machine before using Nikwax. The best all round waterproofer out there.
This is great stuff for reproofing most waterproof clothing. I’ve used it on Gore Tex, Event, Paramor & everything in between with great results. If the item of clothing is very dirty wash it first as normal before using the Tech Wash as the Tech Wash won’t cope with heavily soiled kit. Old Jacket New Lease Of LIVES!
As a dog walker I am that insane kind of English woman who is seen in every weather from sunshine bliss to rain sodden, mud laden madness as the dog needs her walk and she is my responsibility. With all the weather, mud, salt from snowy days and generally being near a large German Shepherd when she's shaking, my coats always take the brunt of it. As I walk along a country lane at night I have a bright yellow waterproof coat that gets clarted up quite easily due to the colour. I purchased Nikwax tech wash and washin in a hope that my coat could be restored by to life after its blathering by mother nature (and my dog). I scrub the sleeves with dish washing liquid to get cuff grime off and any other places with badly German Shepherded areas, then wash with my normal clothes liquid NOT CONDITIONER, then pop it on another wash with tech wash to get all the detergent and whatnot out, whip the Wash-In on the next cycle, dry on my airer over the hearth and KABLOOOOM! Good as new and looking good. It actually made my coat more waterproof than it was when I got it and it was pretty damn good then. It does about 10 goes too so 100% worth the money. Or you could not bother and just buy 10 new coats but my betting is you would have been financially better just buying the NikWax products. I would say buy both the tech-wash and the wash-in as you get the results you were wanting! Highly recommend this product.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

great gear revival
I bought this to try and get more use out of my tent. It's 19 years old but a great design and suits my needs perfectly. Was looking a wee bit grubby in places and I got a couple of very small leaks on one of this years trips. Can't bear to part with it yet. Washed the outer in the bath (too big for a machine)and it has come up a treat. I then gave it the Tx direct treatment and noticed that it instantly became more buoyant in the water which suggests its reproofed very well. Also the water drained off very quickly when I emptied the bath. I followed the instructions on the bottles and am delighted with the results. Will probably need to do a seam check too but feel the tent has had a major revival already. I seemed to have plenty left so hubby's motorbike jacket and goretex trousers got a wash too. Next dry day: the inner tent is getting the treatment. Not sure if I can do an update later, but if so I will take some photos on next camping trip and update on effectiveness of the reproofing.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
