Homicide detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) has just seven days left to retirement when he is paired with his brash replacement David Mills (Brad Pitt). The pair investigate the murder of a man who has been force-fed until he burst, then that of a rich lawyer made to cut a pound of flesh from his own body and consequently bled to death. The fact that the word 'greed' is written in blood on the carpet leads Somerset to speculate that they are dealing with a serial killer who is using the seven deadly sins as a blueprint.
I will buy most anything with Kevin Spacey in it but this time there was very little of him, and only at the end.
But good old Morgan Freeman, you cannot fault the man, he is surely wonderful. And pretty Brad Pitt fills a gap. The plot was good enough, some weirdos killing according to their own mental plan, in messy ways, so have a reasonably strong stomach. Not too upsetting. A psychopath trying to put the world to rights again by nasty killing methods. The old retiring cop Morgan Freeman has to accept a new replacement of the younger variety, Brad Pitt. They are tough enough to deal with the gore. Seasoned actors, they know what they are doing. I would buy a video again with these actors in, but I really would have liked more Kevin Spacey.
He is getting older and I just wish he would start pushing out more films instead of running a theatre in London. When he is gone I will be a bit angry that we didnt not have more of his acting to keep, and watch over again.
