Dont expect an "easy " job.
Was not able to extend pole & had to ask a "strong man" to try as I had been unable even with strong pliers so it is not something an elderly person would be capable of, & it is usually that type of person who would buy. Once it was extended I am very pleased with it & the handle especially is very comfortable.

I've had one of these walking sticks before and lost the last one so bought a replacement I like the shock obsorbant part because repetion can cause a bit of tennis elbow for me and I don't suffer so much with this one and it's easy to retract
