  • Perfect beginners camera.

Hugely underrated camera with a great pedigree, overshadowed by less capable but more popular brands at twice the price. Tremendous range of lenses available in the C/Y mount ranging from Zeiss Planar T through the cheaper but excellent Yashica ML variants; even the cheaper DSB lenses are really good. The camera is lightweight yet feels robust, fits nicely in the hand, controls conveniently placed and feels & sounds quality. Deteriorated leather covering can be replaced for under £20 by anyone with Care and patience.

  • Baby D

So ok, everyone wants a Yashica Mat, specifically a 124G. But the D 66 isn't a bad camera at all. And in general most were not as well used as the 'Mats. I can't see much between the lenses. And the biggest demerit is you do need a light meter. Common to all Yashicas with the Copal MXV shutter, the shutter blades can stick. And although there are some nightmare tutorials out there about stripping the camera, a skilled engineer can clean the shutter blades with out stripping out the entire front. I bought a near mint one off eBay for £40, and spent £24 getting it serviced. Just can't argue with that for a fully working, picture taking medium format camera.
