Das Modell R5 ist eine Spiegelreflexkamera des deutschen Herstellers Leica, die 1987 auf den Markt kam. Bei diesem Angebot ist lediglich das Gehäuse enthalten, weshalb für Aufnahmen zusätzlich ein Objektiv erforderlich ist. Die Kamera verwendet den sogenannten R-Objektivanschluss, so dass alle Vorsätze, die mit einem entsprechenden Bajonett ausgestattet sind, infrage kommen. Die Größe des Films und das Aufnahmeformat betragen jeweils 35 mm. Die R5 zeichnet sich gegenüber ihren Vorgängermodellen dadurch aus, dass sie die TTL-Technik verwendet, die die Lichtverhältnisse direkt durch die Linse misst und dadurch für besonders zuverlässige Ergebnisse sorgt. Außerdem liegt ihre minimale Verschlusszeit bei 1/2000 s. Zudem ist die Abdichtung deutlich verbessert und verhindert das Eindringen von Staub. Sie verfügt über eine Schaltuhr und über einen manuellen Fokus, während das Gewicht der Kamera 625 g beträgt.
