  • Perfect scoping tripod.

Perfect tripod for my use to hold a Pentax spotting scope with a beefy eyepiece and sometimes a camera. It is tall enough to use standing and the legs spread out for stability when used close to the ground (the extension pole is 2 parts and can be shortened to lower the tripod). The head is good for scoping where the left hand controls 2 axes's of motion with one lever and the right hand is on the focus knob. To my surprise the head includes a horizontal panning function (see photo), and that frees up the left hand much of the time - love it (see photo). The mounting plate is secure and easy to use and small so it can stay with the scope. For 6 to 8 times the price of this well made tripod one can get a composite tripod and save a pound of weight. That is poor economy for me because I don't plan on hauling an already bulky scope into the far wilds - that is what compact binoculars are for.
