With a few options at hand, including a new 55-210mm or a 70-300mm telephoto zoom, I wanted a faster lens with good image quality and without breaking the bank. With great reviews of Kiron and Komine 70-210 (former is f/3.5) marketed as Vivitar Series I, and especially the Komine (f/2.8-4), it was only matter of time before I discovered a great deal on this excellent lens. I got the Konica AR mount version and it works quite well, with its one-touch zoom, on the camera I got it for (Sony NEX-3). Even in low light where the typical modern zoom will suffer from being slow, this one allows more room. The downside is that it is relatively big and heavy but I don't mind that as a compromise to IQ and speed.
This is a fantastic lens. I sold my original copy when I switched to digital. I am thrilled that I can use it with my Nikon D90 & D7000. They are 5 versions of this lens. This is the best version. They are some bad copies of this lens. make sure that The serial number starts with 28. That means that it was made by Komine for Vivitar. Do not buy the version with serial number 09, it is horible. This lens can rival Nikon consumer grade lens in this focal length. I am using this lens as a backup to my 70-200MM 2.8 VR II. It was built to last, the copy that I bought is at least 30 years old, and it is still in great condition. Picture quality is amazing, this is a heavy metal lens, that is why it is in great condition after 30 years. Buy one if you find it, you will not regret it. ( Thoraabr ).Read full review

Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
There were 3 manufacturers of this Series 1 lens, the first numbers of the serial # denote which one made it. The #s starting with 28 came from Komine and are known for their high quality.

Good and well preserved, there is no scratch, no fungus, smooth movement of the rings. Nice filter. High quality lens.
This product was for Canon but I converted it to Nkon for macro shots (using tripod), and have got good photos. Thanks very much...
according to many websites the 3rd version of this lens was the best. I got it cheap and it performs really well. I did not try the other version but it beats my cheap sigma 70-210 hands down. Highly recommended.
