Just because this lens was 'cheap as chips' when it first appeared, doesn't mean that it was lacking in quality. Why spend up to 5 times more just to achieve similar results? A lot of snobbery was in evidence when Praktica cameras hit the High Street, with people whom bought Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Pentax brands usually being the worst offenders. Now who has had the last laugh - some of Praktica's Carl Zeiss lenses are sought after and making big money, while their slightly lesser respected Pentagon lenses, which are almost as good, are holding their own too. Highly recommended!

I bought this lens because I want some good prime for my new Pentax dslr. I've dediced to buy Pentacon MC 50mm f/1.8 lens because of aperture and other users reviews. I was pretty suprised when I received item. This lens is great! Excellent control, great sharpness and DOF. This is a M42 screw mount lens so if you buy it you will need M42 adapter. Mine is M42-to-PK. Everything works fine. This lens have Automatic and Manual switch so when it is switched to Automatic, you can automatically control shutter speed depends of light. Lens have f/1.8 which is great for fantastic DOF. It is very easy to use on an extension tubes. I can recommend this lens to everyone who doesn't matter it is manual lens.
I had used this lens extensively in the eighties but sold it in favour of a Japanese camera system (which still works). For nostalgic reasons I decided to repurchase a Praktica MTL3 with Pentacon 50mm f1.8 lens. Unfortunately the lens which came with the Praktica had oil on the iris blades and was therefore useless as they had jammed wide open. I decided to purchase a new (used) 50mm Pentacon f1.8 lens for which I am writing this review. It arrived in excellent condition given its age and still produces great images characteristic of its quality. As I write this review the lens I bought is NOT the "electric" version as the picture denotes.
The Pentacon 50mm lens is a must for any landscape photographer and so naturally, as a landscape artist & photographer, I needed one. The lens allows for a fantastic width of the subject, and its focusing ring (of which worked just fine), gives me the ability to take photos from big areas to almost macro features. There was no fungus or scratches, of which I'm very pleased about, and the use I've already gotten and will continue get out of this product was well worth the price.
Great little 50mm this lens. Coupled with a M42 adapter it fits my Canon 700D perfectly. This lens is great for depth of field work and is fast at f1.8. Optics are clean & no signs of fungus for its age. I'd recommend this lens to anyone.
