Designed by William Barber, this silver coin is a part of the Trade Dollar series that was minted from 1873–1885. On the obverse side, the 1878 Trade Dollar features a female sitting on bales of merchandise with a scroll in her left hand bearing the word 'LIBERTY' and an olive branch in her right hand. The reverse side of this silver coin depicts an eagle with an olive branch in its left claw, and three arrows in its right.
