Excellent Non fiction read for all interested in flying.

Fascinating insight into the worlds greatest test pilot. Easy reading "Winkle" has had the most amazing flying life . A RN pilot who flow over 50 enemy aircraft and over 400 types (not marks) in all. From biplanes to jet aircraft at Farnborough to post war classic jets. His top choices are classic.

  • Most critical review

    Not bad

Too full of his own importance. A quite interesting read if only for the number and type of aircraft the the Germans were developing even at the end of the war. An incite into how the civil aviation industry, and the American space program, owes so much to the German wartime designers and innovators. Without these Nazi scientists and engineers we would not be where we are today in the field of aviation and space travel.

  • Great book written by a true hero of WW2.

Ww2 fighter pilot and test pilot. Arrested by the SS at the start of the war and released over the border into Switzerland. Flew more types of planes including the Spitfires, Seafires, Hurricanes, FW 190, Me 262 etc.

  • Wings on my Sleeve

Anything by Captain Eric Brown is good stuff, being first hand accounts from an unique person and career in a flowing writing style. What detracts from this pocket edition is the low quality photo reproductions. OK for the price I paid though.

  • What a pilot - one of a kind.

If you're interested in aviation this is a must to read. I've seen the documentaries and seen the interviews of him but he doesn't come over on screen as the exceptionally talented man he actually was. What a modest man. A very good book.

  • Wings on my sleeve

A time before computer involvement, brave pilots maybe a little crazy but such a life will never be matched. A hero.
