The 1948 silver coin from Mexico is made of 90 percent silver and 10 percent other metal alloys. It was minted for only two years. During the time of the production of this Mexican peso, Cuauhtemoc ignored the demand for gold treasure, thus resulting in torture and eventually, his death. Cuauhtemoc, the last Aztec emperor, is featured on the obverse of this 1948 five-peso piece wearing a headdress and facing to the left. The obverse side of this silver coin includes the words "30 gramos," meaning 30 g, "Ley 0.900 M" for the amount of silver content, "cinco pesos," and the year 1948. This Mexican peso features an eagle holding a snake in its beak on the reverse side.
