By any standard, American-born Carolyn Carlson certainly ranks among the most unique dance choreographers of the early 21st century. She created the unusual dance piece DARK; describing her role in that production as a 'magician of ambiguity' whose primary goal involves transporting spectators to a nether region where death and life become one. Shot exclusively in the studio for at-home audiences, this particular version of DARK features a score by Joachim Kⁿhn, played on solo piano but magnified via digital console; it also finds Carlson dancing in the production in addition to her choreographic role.
