Confusing, disjointed and poor acting. This movie desperately wants to be an historical epic along the lines of El Cid or even Kingdom of Heaven, but it falls far short. It took me 3/4 of the way through the movie to finally understand that the movie isn't really about Barbarossa but an Italian medieval city-state thats fighting against him. The plot and storyline are confusing, the acting wooden.
great historic film. get informed. .....................................................................................................................................................
This is a historical action packed epic drama by the director Renzo Martinelli starring Rutger Hauer who plays a German Emperor Frederick Hohenstaufen I (Barbarossa) which is set around northern 12th century medieval Italy. However, the power-hungry and bloodthirsty Barbarossa will stop at nothing to conquer his neighbouring kingdoms and revive the empire, which many years ago belonged to Charlemagne once presided over by Charles the Great. Nevertheless, in his attempts to invade Italy Barbarossa meets with fierce opposition from the company of death, a loosely formed army of just 900 men led by a young man called Milan named Alberto Da Giussano and his Milanese forces. In this epic drama as it does provides to shows some amazing deadly clashes breaking out between Barbarossa’s forces, and the apposing Milanese people’s land forces that are indecently fighting for their own independence and social status, Barbarossa struggles to keep control. There is of course a good variety of epic battles scenes and a deadly explosive medieval siege, which show how these two apposing armies are prepared to fight for their own freedom. Well what else can i say apart from watch this epic drama and judge for yourself.Read full review
excellent movie. Well worth the watch..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Low budget, but well done for the budget, an average medieval film, not quite as "sensational" as the atmosphere of the cover looks like.
