When someone tells you that a film is so bad it is actually quite good, this is a good example of what they mean. What else can you say about a film where the award for best acting performance would have to be given to David Hasselhoff, making one of his earliest film appearances from his pre-"Baywatch" days? On paper though, that award should go to Christopher Plumber, but he just doesn't seem too bothered, probably wondering (a) why he ever signed for this film, (b) if his paycheque will clear, and (c) if he should bother to put this project on his CV or not. The real reason to watch is Caroline Munro. From the moment she appears in a courtroom wearing a futuristic space bikini and boots for no real good reason other than to act as eye candy for the audience then you know you're watching something quite unique. It's such a shame then that it all falls to pieces when the ex-model decides to try and "act", though she is by no means the worst offender in this film to be guilty of over-acting (or in Plumber's case, under-acting) and at least she looks super-hot in her space-bikini even if her "acting" is completely wooden. Some people would call this film a rip-off of "Star Wars" (released just one year earlier, in 1977), but that's just not true - it's also a knock-off of "Barbarella", "Flash Gordon" and "Jason & The Argonauts", just with worse special effects, poorer acting and an unintentionally hilarious script. The whole thing is just insane - low production values, there are plot holes you could pilot a starship through and continuity goofs that make Ed Wood Jr look like an expert in comparison. Despite all this though, or maybe because of it, the whole thing is somehow quite watchable. It probably helps that Munro and her bikini is in nearly every scene. And although it might have been the low-point of Christopher Plumber's career, it was probably the high-point of the Hoff's, he at least comes out of it with some of his credibility intact, which is more than can be said of most the rest of the cast. Bad in almost every sense of the word, but at the same time rather oddly entertaining. A true cult classic. 5/10Read full review
