STAR WARS - THE CLONE WARS combines dynamic, stylised animation with action-driven storylines as it explores new terrain in the already vast Star Wars universe. Debuting on the Cartoon Network in 2008, the show takes place during the embattled era of the Clone Wars (largely an off-screen presence in the theatrical films), following young Anakin Skywalker, C-3PO, and Yoda through stormy adventures and galactic battles. This collection of four episodes pits the syntactically challenged Jedi Master against the deadly assassin Asajj Ventress, while Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi try to steer a dreaded warship off course. Look here for the first installment in the successful kids' CGI Star Wars spin-off
I'm told that it gets better in later seasons, but this first set is a little creaky. It definitely has the feel of a series which is made for kids, and frankly a few things about that would worry me as a parent: the uncritical presentation of an (albeit fantasy) military, and the consequent emphasis on following orders and bravery in combat, which is a gift to the army recruiters. I'd want to talk this through with any kids I knew who watched it, and I would much prefer to buy them something more wholesome of comparable target age, like for example Avatar: The Last Airbender (which features fantasy martial arts but with a more positive message - less weapons, less military ethos). I might be over-reacting on this score as I haven't seen the series in its entirety; I'd hope that as a whole it is less uncritical of warfare than this taste suggests.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
