  • For its time - 1958/59 this series is entertaining.

This series was made in 1958/59 and so has its limitations, not least of which is the historical accuracy, given there is some doubt about the actual existence of the main character, William Tell ( a Swiss freedom fighter of the same calibre and bravery as Robin Hood here in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire. )That aside the stories are engaging and each episode last 25 minutes so they have to tell their tales with efficiency and without any unnecessary padding of the script. The actors - including athletic Conrad Phillips, attractive Jennifer Jayne and obviously overweight Willoughby Goddard give of their best - as do the many guest stars. While production is brisk and efficient - with extensive use being made of studio and backlot settings and actual location footage taken in Snowdonia. If you like these historical dramas you should enjoy this - just don't expect the production budgets of todays historical dramas and you won't be disappointed. I'd give the series 3, or at a push, 4 stars out of 5.

  • Great series, great production.

This was a most enjoyable series to watch. Good storylines. Great adventure, no bad language, great quality disc reproduction. Only improvement that could be made is subtitles, although the dialogue/diction was clear, for me with hard of hearing, means partner is not deafened.

  • Charles DVD reviews.

Bought this because it takes me back to my Childhood in the late 1950s. Used to love William Tell and Robin Hood. Not too much money to buy as well.
