ReviewsLos Angeles Times - ...Exquisite and seductive....Cinema at its most evocative....PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK remains a gorgeous-looking, superbly wrought cinema..., Entertainment Weekly - "...[It] wears the brilliant obscurity of a Dickinson poem and the suggestive force of a Magritte painting....[Offers] just the perfect beauty of its puzzle..." -- Rating: A, Empire - Haunting and compelling, New York Times - ...A hypnotic spell....A movie that is both spooky and sexy.

  • CLASSIC MYSTERY MOVIE

I first saw this in the cinema in 1975 and left the auditorium without an answer to the mystery and thinking about possible solutions. Watching this Director's Cut nearly 50 years later, it still leaves that uneasy feeling. Excellent! A lovely presentation on Blu Ray with excellent music used by Peter Weir to add to the atmosphere. The use of Zamfir's Pan pipes with the sound of Marcel Cellier on the pipe-organ was quite novel at the time and was a stroke of genius. The Bonus features were extensive and gave further insight into the film, but did not spoil the mystery by explaining what had happened. It would have been better to also have the longer original theatrical production of the film as was available on the DVD release, for a comparison. We are just left with deleted scenes for the Director's Cut as a Bonus Feature. Just a bit of a niggle and doesn't spoil the experience.

  • Think I preferred the original version to the directors cut.

Have always thought this is an excellent film by Peter Weir, though did there need to be a directors cut? Usually in directors cuts they add footage but Weir took some out instead. Still a great film, very wonderful & mysterious!

  • Mesmerising film

Great movie. It's a slow burner which focuses solely on atmosphere. Don't expect neat plot lines. The film is absolutely mesmerising and I will definitely watch it again soon. Highly Recommended.

  • Brilliant and Enchanting

Brilliant and enchanting. Don't expect too much plot, but do expect a haunting spiritual experience.
